Jack Osbourne emotionally opened up about the last time that he got to see his dad onstage.
The 39-year-old son of rock icon Ozzy Osbourne shared memories of his father during a GMA Cover Story on the Monday, Oct. 6 episode of Good Morning America.
Ozzy, a dad of six, died at the age of 76 on July 22, just a few weeks after he took the stage on July 6 for a concert called “Back to the Beginning.” It saw him reunite with his rocker bandmates from Black Sabbath and also perform some of his solo music.
Recalling the concert, Jack broke into tears while speaking with Chris Connelly.
“Before he went onstage, I ran back into the dressing room, and I just gave him a big hug. I just kissed him,” he said, “I was like, ‘Crush it. You’re gonna do so good.’ ”
Continuing, Jack remembered, “And I was crying. I was in the crowd… There was this area in the crowd, and I was with my brother. And we both were just crying. Not because… It wasn’t because of feeling sorry for him. It wasn’t because we were sad for him. I think it was because we knew it was his last time.”
“In hindsight, it kind of was a living wake if you think about it. He got to say goodbye to everyone,” Jack said.

Speaking of his father’s death, Jack told Connelly that his family, especially mom Sharon Osbourne, was totally unprepared for the “outpour of love” that they received from the public and other celebrities.
“I know she feels the love [from the public], and that has been such a level that none of us could ever really… You know, I think every child sits there and has this thought about one day their parents won’t be there, and what will that be like? It’s just a part of being human. We just didn’t think of it,” he admitted.
As for how Sharon is coping with the loss of her longtime love, Jack said that he tells people, “She’s okay, but she’s not okay.”
Sharon broke her silence about Ozzy’s death in September, reflecting on the support the family had received in a post on Instagram.
“I’m still having trouble finding the words to express how grateful I am for the overwhelming love and support you’ve shown on social media,” she said. “Your comments, posts, and tributes have brought me more comfort than you know. None of it has gone unnoticed, in fact, it’s carried me through many nights.”
Earlier that month, Jack recalled in a video on YouTube the moment that he learned about his father’s death
“I woke up in Los Angeles to a knock on my house door at around 3:45 in the morning,” Jack recalled said. “Someone who has worked for my family for probably 30 years was knocking on my door, and when I looked through my window and I saw it was him, I just knew something bad had happened. I was informed that my father had passed.”
“I wish he was still here. I wish he was still with us all, but he was having a rough go and I think people saw that at the show,” the reality TV alum said, adding that the timing of his death was still shocking, saying, “No one expected it to happen as quickly as it did and when it did.”

However, Ozzy’s friend Tom Morello, who helped organize the star’s final concert, opined that the star “knew” his time was limited during an August interview on Chicago’s Q101 radio station.
“The fact that he lived to play and feel that love and to one more time… You know, to do ‘Paranoid;’ to do ‘Crazy Train.’ If you have got to go — I mean, I wish Ozzy [had] lived another 30 years — but if you’ve got to go out, it really felt like he knew,” he said.
